FedRAMP Certification Cost
What actually costs money on a 20x path: assessor, advisor, engineering, infra, tooling, staffing, and ongoing ConMon. Official FedRAMP.gov sources in our registry do not publish a fee schedule. Every row below is labeled official (what the government requires or does not price) or estimate (qualitative, no invented dollars).
Educational resource only. scm.cc is not a FedRAMP Recognized Independent Assessor (3PAO) and is not FedRAMP-authorized; it grants no authorization, certification, or assessment outcome. FedRAMP.gov is the authoritative source. This is not legal advice.
Technical detail
COST_DRIVERS is a typed list with kind official|estimate. Estimate rows must carry methodology. The page renderer must show the word estimate on estimate rows. scm.cc prices are not FedRAMP fees.
How to implement
Budget from contracts you actually have (assessor SOW, cloud bill). Confirm class on FedRAMP.gov before scoping KSIs. Do not paste a blog’s dollar range into a board deck as an official fee.
Common mistakes
- Presenting an industry blog’s dollar range as a FedRAMP fee. - Treating scm.cc or advisor invoices as government charges. - Inventing a Class D price.
Cost drivers
| Driver | Kind | Statement |
|---|---|---|
| FedRAMP program / application fee | official | The registered official sources cited here do not publish a dollar fee for FedRAMP Certification. Missing stays missing — this page does not invent a government price. |
| Recognized Independent Assessor engagement | estimate | Estimate: independent assessment is a commercial engagement with an assessor from official registries. Price is between the provider and the assessor; scm.cc does not quote or broker it. Methodology: Qualitative driver only. No dollar range is published because we have no sourced rate card. |
| Advisor / consultant | estimate | Estimate: advisors are optional and are not assessors. Cost is a private commercial matter. Do not treat advisor invoices as official FedRAMP fees. Methodology: Qualitative. No invented day-rate. |
| Engineering to meet KSIs and the SDR | estimate | Estimate: internal engineering to implement KSIs, logging, IAM, VDR, and the SDR varies by offering and class. No sourced hour count exists in the official registry. Methodology: Qualitative effort driver. Class C typically has more marked KSIs than unmarked Class A in the pinned catalog — that is a scope hint, not a price. |
| Infrastructure (cloud, logging, scanners) | estimate | Estimate: cloud, SIEM, and scanner spend is a vendor-list price, not a FedRAMP fee. Confirm with the vendor. Methodology: Qualitative. Not an official FedRAMP charge. |
| ConMon / GRC tooling | estimate | Estimate: tooling (including scm.cc) is a commercial product choice. This page does not list scm.cc prices as FedRAMP requirements. Methodology: Qualitative build-vs-buy driver. |
| Staffing (ISSO, evidence owners) | estimate | Estimate: someone has to own evidence, OCR, and VDR. Headcount is an org choice, not an official FedRAMP FTE table. Methodology: Qualitative. |
| Ongoing ConMon / CCM | official | FedRAMP.gov requires ongoing monitoring (Rev5 monthly package and/or 20x quarterly OCR). It does not publish a dollar cost for that work on the sources cited here. |
| Class differences | official | Class C has published KSI markers, a metrics window, and VDR cadences on FedRAMP.gov. Class D requirements are not invented here. Class is a scope difference, not a published price list. |
