FedRAMP 20x on Azure
On Azure, start from Entra ID (identity), Policy / Guest Configuration (desired state), Activity Log / Defender (monitoring), and Key Vault (key material). 20x still wants the underlying validation process, not a portal PDF.
Educational resource only. scm.cc is not a FedRAMP Recognized Independent Assessor (3PAO) and is not FedRAMP-authorized; it grants no authorization, certification, or assessment outcome. FedRAMP.gov is the authoritative source. This is not legal advice.
Technical detail
Microsoft Defender for Cloud recommendations are useful facts when dated and scoped. They do not rewrite official KSI statements. If a recommendation has no KSI mapping in your SDR, it is extra telemetry — label it that way.
How to implement
Document which subscriptions are in the authorization boundary. Persistent evaluation of machine configuration belongs with KSI-MLA-EVC / KSI-SVC-ACM language from the catalog, not with a one-off workbook.
Common mistakes
- Equating Azure Policy 'compliant' with a KSI hold without quoting the indicator. - Leaving management groups out of the boundary and still claiming full coverage.
